The Capacity Building Programme for Employment Promotion (CBPEP), funded by the European Union and anchored in GTAC, convened a three-day Colloquium from 2-4 June 2021. The Colloquium focused on developing a 500-day action-focused policy agenda to reignite, reinvigorate and reconstruct economic growth and employment for South Africa.
Listening to South Africa’s leading economic policy thinkers, senior government officials, along with key individuals from the private sector and academia, the discussions provided practical, action-oriented policy advice on a range of critical issues including, for example, the fiscal deficit and taxation, municipal debt, infrastructure and the aviation sector, and the role and impact of Operation Vulindlela. Private sector views on national priorities, and targeted discussions on key economic sectors including mining and energy, telecommunications and digitalisation, water and transport, amongst others, rounded out the programme.
