Operation Vulindlela, a joint initiative of the Presidency and National Treasury, aims to accelerate the implementation of structural reforms to fundamentally transform South Africa’s economy. This engaging quarterly report provides a sector by sector review of progress made with the implementation of priority reforms in five focus areas electricity, transport, water, telecommunications, and the visa regime.

In the past quarter the key achievements include:
– the raising of the licensing threshold for new grid connected generation projects to 100 MW;
– the publication of the Electricity Regulation Amendment Bill to enable a competitive electricity market;
– the successful completion of the spectrum auction to improve cellphone network quality and reduce the cost of data and
– the launch of the eVisa system in 14 countries, including major new tourist markets such as China, India, Kenya and Nigeria.
