The National Health System – A Roadmap for Reform

This Roadmap provides a framework for implementing a series of necessary health systems improvements in South Africa, underpinned by a revised priority status within Government. Concerns exist that fiscal austerity and institutional challenges over the past 10 years have reduced the capacity of the health system to respond effectively to public health threats. These concerns are borne out by key indicators of health performance and status which fall far short of a country of South Africa’s level of development.
