Savings through an Alternative Deployment Strategy in Operation Sukuma Sakhe, linked to the Public Service Volunteer Week – Spending Review Report

Government can save R58,8 million (over 500 housing subsidies) on the total costs of R85,8 million of the SMS deployment in the Public Service Volunteer Week and monthly visits to 806 wards by changing its deployment strategy and prioritisation. Adjustment includes: • SMS are deployed once per quarter to 379 priority wards (high need areas identified in the Provincial Spatial Development Framework). At least one quarterly visit to coincide in the week of Mandela Day. • MMS are deployed quarterly to the 806 wards. • This allows for strategic participation of SMS in the priority wards whilst the MMS foot soldiers ensure full coverage of all wards.
