Rural Economic Infrastructure – Spending Review Report

Since 1994, the South African government has placed rural development amongst the top five priorities of government to develop the economy and to address spatial/infrastructure inequalities. This is necessitated by the realisation that infrastructure development is critical component to the upliftment of the rural economy. Development of the rural economy holds significant potential towards reducing inequality, unemployment and poverty, thereby contributing to sustainable development and economic growth.
