Horizon Scanning in South Africa: Migration and Demographics

The brief for this horizon scanning paper focuses on the following: 1) General demographic trends for South Africa and for the surrounding region; 2) Internal and cross-border migration; and 3) Future effects and their drivers. The paper first considers some existing migration projections before considering likely migration-driving factors in the medium term, government policy in relation to migration, the regional picture for the future and some policy implications.
