Description

A presentation delivered by Mr Pontsho Nchodu (Project Advisor: Transaction Advisory Services and Public Private Partnerships Unit) on 08 July 2022 as part of GTAC’s weekly webinar series. This presentation gives an overview of the Gauteng Schools Programme. The Gauteng Department of Education faces a number of challenges in its efforts to provide adequate school infrastructure. To address the high demand for school infrastructure, the Department initiated the Gauteng Schools Programme to achieve the following: (1) Replace all asbestos schools in the province; (2) Replace mobile schools with permanent “brick and mortar” schools; and (3) Build new greenfields schools to deal with the severe shortage of access in some areas in the province. The project also aimed to reduce overcrowding of schools in historically underprivileged areas, accelerate provision of quality infrastructure and effective funding models for Gauteng schools and to explore innovative and affordable solutions available to the department in its pursuit of providing quality infrastructure for Gauteng schools.
