Beyond digital procurement: professional people, user-centered systems and economic impact
In this presentation Dr Albert Jeleni, representing the Institute for Economic Development and Innovation (IfEDI Africa) and the Limpopo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the importance of combining digital procurement reform with professional skills, ethical judgement and systems that work for businesses. The presentaton outlined the need for supplier development to align with government’s procurement needs and for digital platforms to be tested against the barriers suppliers experience. His recommendations focused on strengthening professional competence, incorporating user feedback and measuring procurement’s contribution to investment, service delivery and broader development outcomes.
The paper was produced as part of the SA-EU Dialogue – a partnership between National Treasury, GTAC, GIZ and the European Union which is focused on strengthening public procurement systems in South Africa.
