Over the past 2 decades, compensation spending within government has been a significant factor leading to increased spending across all spheres of government.

To gain a better understanding of the trends in compensation spending and to paint a clearer picture of how this spending has reached its current levels, GTAC has utilised payroll data (PERSAL) to undertake a comprehensive analysis of compensation spending within the government. In addition to the trend analysis, the payroll data has been used to test strategies that could improve the efficiency and slow the unsustainable growth in compensation spending.
