History of the journal.
The Development Southern Africa journal was established by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) in 1984 as the Development Society’s journal. Despite several institutional changes, the journal survived, and is today, after almost 35 years of uninterrupted publication, a well-established and internationally recognised, multi-disciplinary academic journal. It is a platform for robust debates and discussion for development researchers and activists, policy advisors and implementers and students of development. DSA focuses specifically on local and regional socio-economic and development policy issues. It has remained a journal of choice for academics and analysts from numerous disciplines (economics, sociology, agricultural economics, development studies and political science, amongst others) in respect of key southern African development issues, including poverty, household livelihoods, tourism, agriculture, SMMEs, rural development, applied public finance and recently, infrastructure development.
The journal is published six times a year, and all DSA articles are peer-reviewed and professionally edited. The journal is accredited locally by the Department of Education and internationally by the (IBSS) International Bibliography of Social Sciences and the Thomson Reuters Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). The journal has been published, since 1999, by Taylor & Francis (T&F), based in the United Kingdom.
