    The Laboratory for the Economics of Africa’s Past (LEAP) in the Department of Economics at Stellenbosch University is offering a year-long postdoctoral fellowship. The study area is ‘Capitalism at the Cape: South African Joint Stock Companies: New data, methods and outcomes for long-run economic growth (1866–1910)’. The remuneration is R200 000 and the closing date for application is 1 May 2017.

  • Call for Application for Skills Development Training in Econometrics

    ERSA invites applications for the first of three basic econometrics courses , geared to academics and postgraduate (master’s and PhD) students with limited training in econometrics and quantitative methods. The training will be conducted in a computer lab at the Department of Economics at the University of Pretoria. Participants will not only acquire the necessary theoretical background but will also be exposed to hands-on empirical application, using software such as EViews and STATA. The first training workshop will be held from 3–7 July 2017, while the dates for the second and third workshops, respectively on cross-sectional techniques and panel data analysis, will be communicated later. ERSA will sponsor 10 to 15 delegates; the sponsorship will cover course fees, and where needed accommodation and flights.
